The Gambia is a friendly and accessible West African country, absolutely teeming with rare and exotic birds, drawn to the fertile areas along the Gambia River and on the coast.
Let me take you on fascinating bird watching trips, throughout the length and breadth of my country,
at very reasonable cost. I am a member of the RSPB and WABSA and I am listed in the Bradt
Guide to The Gambia. I'm based in the foyer of the Kombo Beach Hotel.
We can visit coastal areas such as: Koto
Stream, Cape Creek and Crocodile Pool, Bund road, the Lamin
rice fields, Yundum, Tanji Nature Reserve and the Faraba
Banta Bush Track Bird Reserve, Brufut forest, Marakissa
rice fields, Pirang Fish Ponds, Abuko Nature Reserve.
If you have a few days to spare there are
more exotic species further up
country: Tendaba Camp, Jangjangbureh (Georgetown) or Basse Santa
Su. This would involve 1-3 nights: 2-4 days. The cost would include accommodation,
creek trip at Tendaba, guiding and transport. See photos
and comments from some of my clients over the years.

" My wife and myself have been to The Gambia four times and always had Modou as our bird guide, he has always turned up on time and is one of the most trustworthy people I have ever met. If anybody is going to Gambia on a birdwatching holiday they can’t go far wrong by booking Modou Barry a fantastic bird Guide, he is based in the combo beach Hotel. " Cyril and Jean Turner, South Yorkshire UK - Jan 2023
" My husband and I took a trip to The Gambia in Feb 2022 and pre-booked Modou by email for 2 days' birding. . . . We visited places we had never been before and saw our target birds including, owls, raptors, nightjar (very close views) and Violet Turaco. Modou is an excellent guide, he has a vast knowledge regarding birds, the best places to spot them, he is polite, helpful, and has a good sense of humour. His drivers were equally friendly and enthusiastic. We would recommend highly Modou, the perfect bird guide. " Diane Daniels and Phil Scott, Kent, UK
" We thoroughly enjoyed our birding trips again this year (Dec 2019) and had some fantastic views of some lovely birds. We're always impressed as to how Modou seeks the birds out and calls them in. He's such a patient and humble guide, in our opinion one of the best. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you Modou. " Rob and Jean Clark - UK
